Seasonality of Arranging Local Blooms (The Sustainable Florist's Journey Part III) - Sunday April 27th 1:00PM - 2:30PM
Sustainable floristry starts with making changes to our shopping habits. One of the simplest things we can do as Floral Designers is to select botanicals that are in season and locally grown. This class will focus on working with exclusively Canadian-grown flowers and foliage from our suppliers in British Columbia.
We will be working with a ceramic vessel, utilizing chicken wire as our base mechanic. This class will be lead by our instructor, Nicola, but participants are encouraged to consider the natural form of the botanicals provided and work intuitively to best arrange their composition.
In this hands on class, we will discuss the benefits of purchasing locally grown flowers, the impact of reducing our use of single use plastics, and why the floral design industry is making a big return to local flowers.
Whether you have decided to go foam-free with your floral design business, want to explore sustainable design mechanics, or simply want to gain new design techniques, this hands-on workshop will leave you with valuable tools and knowledge to improve yourself as a sustainable floral designer.
