Sansevieria zeylanica, also known as the Ceylon Bowstring Hemp or Mother-in-Law's Tongue, is a badass and bombastic variety of Sansevieria noted for its air-purifying superpowers and low-maintenance badassery. Hailing from Sri Lanka and parts of India, this plant rocks long, sword-like leaves that are dark green with lighter, wavy cross bands. The leaves are thick as heck and can grow super tall, adding a rad architectural flair to any chill indoor space. Like other Sansevieria varieties, it can handle any environmental shenanigans and is a total boss when it comes to banishing indoor pollutants. Known as some of the toughest houseplants around, they store carbon dioxide at night for use during the day, then release oxygen at night (photosynthesis party!) for maximum air-cleansing awesomeness, as proven by NASA's epic study.
