When we first saw that the colour palette and mood board for this Halloween-inspired wedding was moody and dark, we were excited to begin designing the florals to coordinate with the unique antique decor and rich colour palette of rich reds, velvety blacks, and deep purple tones.
Utilizing the main ballroom at the Pendennis Weddings & Events, our team began setting up a broken archway. Our intent was to create a feeling of tension by incorporating branches, reminescient of dark forests and windswept trees, yet still keep the archway feeling romantic. We created the broken archway on site, working with Agra Wool, chicken wire, and moss to create the support for the florals - attaching these mechanics to a metal pole with a wide base allowed us to add height to our design, while keeping it slender and ethereal feeling.
Our main flower choices included Schwartzwalder mini calla lilies, Panda anemone, Rubicon spray roses, Safari Sunset leucadendron, and red skimmia, accented with sanguisorba, hanging amaranthus, and agonis foliage. The rich tones of the florals and foliage added a dramatic, if not slightly macabre effect to the decor.
The details of this spooky wedding were in complete alignment with the day's theme - from the black icing on the wedding cake, natural skulls included in the tablescape, and the picture-perfect cocktails created for our alternative couple, proving that a themed wedding can be an elegant and sophisticated event.
